Sri Jyotish Chandra Pal was born on 15th August, 1913 in Tripura district of undivided Bangladesh. He settled in Bhattanagar, Liluah, Howrah in the year 1950.
Bhattanagar Consumers’ Co-operative Stores Ltd was registered in the month of February, 1964 with paid up share capital of Rs.2500 (Rupees Two thousand Five Hundred only) contributed by 105 shareholders. The address was 16, Bhattanagar, Howrah. The President, Secretary and Chairman of the first Board of Directors were Sri Kshitish Chandra Sen, Sri Jyotish Chandra Pal and Sri Bipin Chandra Raut respectively. Sri Jyotish Chandra Pal’s untiring effort helped the Stores to grow.
From July, 1964 the Stores started selling rice at cheaper rates. Since then more and more people bought shares of the Stores. The existence of the Co-operative Stores helped in controlling market prices of consumable goods in Bhattanagar, nay Liluah. This institution also employed a good number of people which helped the survival of many families.
With the help of able Board Members Sri Jyotish Chandra Pal took it forward and started 2 Ration Shops, Cloth Department, He took the initiative to get the agency of Indane Gas and was successful in having that. It helped the people to switch over to cooking gas for household needs.
Unfortunately, he left for heavenly abode on 13th February, 1990.
